Patents

Dr. Leila Kalandarishvili has recorded over 20 patents covering phages and phage preparations in the Republic of Georgia. Three patents cover products which are trademarked under the names Intestiphage, Pyophage, and Biosept.

Pyophage continues to successfully treat
MRSA Infection, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus; a potentially life-threatening bacterial infection characterized by resistance to antiobiotics.  Dr. Kalandarishvili's recently completed statistical study of 2,500 individual cases treated by  Pyophage in 2007 revealed an efficacy in the high 90-percentile range; over 40% of these 2,500 cases involved MRSA.

This "phage cocktail" has proven effective against more than 100 strains of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.  Pyophage stands alone as a patented, licensed, registered, and commercially produced phage-based treatment for MRSA.
